The Caetani Cultural Centre and Allan Brooks Nature Centre invite the public to an artist talk and exhibition by Fresh!AiR artist-in-residence Misia Lukasiewicz where she will be speaking about the socially engaged body of work she has created that explores the topic of human connection through art. Visiting from Poland, Misa’s presentation will mark the end of nearly 6-weeks of research and art-making revolving around her exploration of the Vernon region seen through the eyes of some of its residents.

In cooperation with a select group of locals from the Okanagan, Misia has developed a body of work that illustrates how they see their homeland. Her goal was to collect impressions of local people through a variety of mediums. Very much a collaborative project, together the universal language of art becomes an instrument for intergenerational and intercultural understanding. Misia explains that for her, “the word landscape means the nature, weather, topography and density of population which is unique for every region; therefore the title of my residency project refers to inalienable heritage, which identifies us. I think that this heritage is how we subconsciously sense the landscape”.

On October 25 at 7pm, the public is invited to the Caetani Centre’s new Port Studio to see and hear about the results of this unique collaboration. Misia will present the documentation of her project through a series of sketches, photography, film, drawings and paintings, thus revealing the process of the communications between artist and subject. How does our landscape affect us? Come and see how Misia has illustrated a land that is foreign to her through the human connections she made.

Lukasiewicz’s residency is the final of four back-to-back Fresh!AiR art & environment themed artist residencies for the 2016 season, a program made possible through a partnership between the Caetani Cultural Centre and the Allan Brooks Nature Centre.
