The Caetani Cultural Centre, Arts Council of the North Okanagan and Vernon Community Arts Centre are pleased to present an exhibition for visiting Irish ceramics artist-in-residence Sarah Ryan. While Ryan has been staying at the Caetani Cultural Centre since her arrival in February, she has been working out of the Vernon Community Arts Centre, digging up the local clay and exploring its properties. Process focused, Sarah is following in the footsteps of Axel Ebring, although unlike Ebring, her work is not about production. While her process depends a lot on the nature of the clay, Ryan says that the work she produces in the studio is not necessarily the most important part. Sarah’s investigations into the local clay have resulted in some fascinating discoveries and insights, the results of which will be on display at the Vernon Community Arts Centre from May 20 – June 5, 2016.
To hear from the artist herself, and to see what she’s been up to these past three months, please join Sarah at the Vernon Community Arts Centre on Friday, May 20th from 5-7pm for the opening reception of her exhibit. The exhibit will run through to June 5. This marks the 2nd year for the CeramAiR program, a residency which is made possible through a partnership between the Caetani Cultural Centre, Arts Council of the North Okanagan and Vernon Community Arts Centre.
