A look at Sveva Caetani’s Exhibition at the MAXXI in Rome

Interest in Sveva Caetani’s life and art has increased as a result of the opening of the exhibit titled Sveva Caetani: Forma e Frammento at MAXXI, the National Museum of 21st Century Art in Rome.

It has been a month since a group of Caetani staff, board members and supporters travelled from Vernon and other parts of Western Canada to celebrate the opening of Sveva Caetani’s Forma e Frammento exhibition at the MAXXI in Rome, Italy.

On October 2, the Canadian Caetani contingency along with their Italian counterparts and dignitaries, including the Canadian Ambassador to Italy, gathered at the MAXXI Museum of 21st Century Contemporary Art in Rome to mark the major milestone: the first international exhibition of Sveva Caetani’s complete Recapitulation series.

This exhibition not only highlights Sveva Caetani’s work on a global stage but also celebrates the enduring cultural legacy of the Caetani family in Vernon, where they lived from 1921 until Sveva’s passing in 1994.

This significant achievement was the result of a collaborative effort led by MAXXI curator Chiara Ianeselli and her team, in partnership with Caetani Centre Executive Director Laisha Rosnau and curatorial intern Devin Hunt.

We also gratefully acknowledge the support of archivist Gwyneth Evans from the Vernon Museum & Archives, the Vernon Public Art Gallery, and many others in both Italy and Canada who contributed to the realization of this important cultural project.

In her report, published in Accenti Magazine on November 3, 2025, historian and writer Adriana A Davies, who was part of the Caetani contingency, shares her thoughts and observations on the exhibit and what this means for Sveva’s legacy going forward.

“For the first time all 47 works (some multiples) in Sveva’s Recapitulation Series are being exhibited together. And the timing is ideal, as the work of overlooked women artists around the world continues to come to the fore,” writes Davies.

We thank Adriana and all who have supported this important exhibition that will hopefully bring Sveva’s artwork and story to a new audience. Please read the full article here:
