Recapitulation Reunited: A Historic Homecoming for Canada
An extraordinary chapter in Canadian art history is returning home this spring.
From April 3–11, 2026, the Caetani Centre presents Recapitulation Reunited at the Coldstream Community Hall — marking the first time the complete Recapitulation series by Sveva Caetani has ever been exhibited in its entirety in Canada.
Just months earlier, the full series was presented at the MAXXI National Museum of 21st Century Arts in Rome (October 2025 – January 2026), where it received international acclaim.
Now, the series returns to the Okanagan — the community where these remarkable works were created — offering a rare opportunity to witness the Sveva Caetani paintings return from Rome. This Sveva Caetani exhibition 2026 Canada represents one of the most significant North Okanagan cultural events in 2026.
A Gala to Celebrate Art and Community – April 10, 2026
A highlight of the week will be the Caetani Centre fundraising gala on Friday, April 10, 2026. This black tie gala in Vernon BC, April 2026 offers an elegant evening within the exhibition space itself.
Guests will enjoy a formal reception within the exhibition space, sit-down dinner, live entertainment, auction of curated items and experiences, special presentations and acknowledgements while having the opportunity to directly support Recapitulations’s preservation, education, and exhibition programs.
As part of the region’s key Okanagan culture events in spring 2026, the gala also ensures that the historic Caetani house, now the Caetani Cultural Centre, and the Caetani family legacy continue to inspire future generations.

The Complete Recapitulation Story
Created between 1978 and 1989, Recapitulation unfolds across 47 interconnected scenes, told by chapter and rendered in 60 detailed watercolours, several of which are monumental multi-panel works. Together, they form a sweeping visual autobiography, tracing Sveva’s journey from childhood in Europe, through her family’s immigration to Canada, Sveva’s years of isolation after her father’s death, and her eventual artistic emergence in Vernon BC.
The series stands as one of the most ambitious achievements among Canadian women artists, blending narrative depth with symbolic imagery and intricate composition. The exhibition highlights the personal, historical, and cultural dimensions of her life, contributing to recognition of women artists in British Columbia and to the broader discourse on Italian nobility art in Canada.
For locals and visitors seeking things to do in Vernon BC in April 2026, this rare art exhibition in Coldstream BC promises a transformative and immersive experience.
Public Tours & Community Access
Visitation of the Recapitulation exhibition will be available at the Coldstream Community Hall from April 3–11 (except for on April 10) between noon and 4 p.m. Admission is by donation.

Why This Exhibition Matters
Exhibitions rarely travel internationally and even more rarely return home in full. For nine days in April, the Okanagan becomes the only place in Canada where audiences can experience the full Recapitulation series.
Recapitulation Reunited is more than an exhibition — it is a homecoming, a celebration, and a statement of Sveva’s artistic legacy. By presenting the series in its entirety, the Caetani Centre affirms its commitment to preserving this Italian-Canadian artist exhibition in the Okanagan.
Visitors will not only witness a masterwork in full but will also gain a deeper understanding of the artist’s journey, the Caetani family history, and the enduring influence of Sveva Caetani’s vision on contemporary Canadian art.
This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to see the complete Recapitulation series exhibition in Canada, connect with one of the country’s most extraordinary women artists, and participate in a landmark cultural event.
Experience the historic homecoming of the Recapitulation series: April 3–11, 2026 at the Coldstream Community Hall.
