Creating Space: Tracing the Inner Myth: A Creative Journey with Sveva Caetani & Destanne Norris

$200.00

This five-part workshop offers painters an opportunity to engage with the art and life of Sveva Caetani while creating artwork inspired by this encounter—art that is interpretive, self-reflective and meaningful. Held at the Caetani Cultural Centre, with access to the Caetani Museum, participants will explore Sveva’s work and writings and draw inspiration from its symbolism, narrative depth, and expressive qualities.

Through guided sketching and compositional development, participants will create preliminary drawings that form the foundation of their paintings. Instruction will focus on composition, value, shape, and line, encouraging thoughtful observation and intentional design. Working in acrylic or oil, participants will then be supported through each stage of their painting process. Individual guidance and feedback will be provided throughout the workshop to help each artist strengthen their expressive voice and refine their technical skills.

The workshop is designed for both emerging and experienced artists who are 13 years of age and older. By the conclusion of the it, each participant will have completed one or two paintings suitable for inclusion in a culminating exhibition at the Caetani Centre.

ABOUT THE FACILITATOR:
Destanne Norris, MFA, is a painter and educator whose practice is grounded in narrative, place and the transformative nature of creative inquiry. She holds a Master of Fine Arts degree from the University of Tasmania and has a longstanding relationship with the Caetani Cultural Centre, where she spent six years as a studio artist, contributed works to annual fundraising events, and participated as an Artist-in-Residence through both the Caetani Centre and the Allan Brooks Nature Centre. She has also led two sold-out Caetani paint nights in partnership with the Vernon Winter Carnival.

Over the past years, Destanne has guided more than 1,000 participants of varying ages and backgrounds in the creation of their own drawings and paintings. She is dedicated to supporting each individual’s artistic development, encouraging thoughtful exploration, technical growth, and the emergence of a distinct visual voice.
