REMEMBRANCE DAY CLOSURE NOTICE

The Caetani Centre will be closed on Tuesday, November 11, in observance of Remembrance Day.

On this day, we pause to honour and remember the courage, service, and sacrifice of those who have served — and continue to serve — in times of war, conflict, and peace.

We invite our community to join in local commemorations and take time for reflection and gratitude.
Regular hours and programming will resume on Wednesday, November 12.

Lest we forget.

Trick or Treaters Welcome on Halloween

Trick or Treaters Welcome on Halloween

It’s Sveva’s favourite time of year!

To recognize our benefactor’s love of Halloween, the Caetani Centre will be open on Friday. Oct. 31 from 5 to 8 PM to greet families, friends and neighbours and hand out a trick, treat, or two.

Come to the side door entrance (like the children did back in the ‘50s and ‘60s, to meet Sveva and Miss Jüül). There, you will welcomed inside, by donation, to visit our main floor museum where you can learn about the Caetani family and see their fascinating collection of fashion, toys (including our infamous haunted doll), trunks, artworks, home movies, and even Leone Caetani’s death mask, among many other interesting objects.

Stay for a steaming cup of hot chocolate and peruse the Caetani gift shop for a selection of Halloween-centric items –dolls, masks, embroidery, shrunken head keychains, and more –by Caetani studio artist Cher Mark of Freaky Faeries. Caetani merch such as cards, books, prints, T-shirts, totes and other locally handcrafted artwork will also be available to purchase.

Caetani staff will also be handing out treats at the door to all our young visitors.

We look forward to welcoming you to Vernon’s most famous Halloween house!

Ghost Tours of Vernon - Haunted Houses of East Hill Featuring Caetani House

Trod the streets where homes as old as Vernon itself whisper of the paranormal, macabre and terrifyingly true tales of murder, mystery and mayhem. Nestled along Vernon’s “supernatural highway”, Pleasant Valley Rd, sits an historic home that once belonged to one of Vernon’s most famous families. A home filled with over 130 years of secrets.

In partnership with Caetani Centre, join your hosts Antonia Serafina Sirianni and Mr Harrison Robert Kelly Coe III for a 2-hour walking tour of haunted houses of East Hill, including a special tour of the historic Caetani House. Discover what lurks inside … if you dare.

There are accessible washrooms on this tour and the opportunity to shop for strange and wonderful Halloween-centric wares at the Caetani gift shop.

Rain, snow, or moon, please dress appropriately for the weather, which can include gothic and Halloween costumes, and be sure to wear sturdy walking shoes!

Tours take place Oct. 28, 29 and 30 at 6:30 PM and start at Justice Park (3001 28 St, Vernon) .

FIRST FRIDAY ART TRAIL

The Caetani Centre is participating in the next First Friday Art Trail, happening Friday, Sept. 5 throughout Greater Vernon.

From 10 AM to 4 PM you can visit our newly revamped museum and gift shop to learn the Caetani story, see our collection of home movies, artifacts, fashions and art.

In addition, from noon to 4 PM, our current artist-in-residence Shirry Insole will have the Jüül Studio open.

Shirry is a semi-retired healthcare professional who returned to school a few years ago to pursue a degree in fine art. Her artistic practice explores themes of embodiment and subjective, phenomenological experience.

"A recent visit to the Caetani Centre inspired me, particularly the history of the Canadian Caetani family. I was especially moved by Sveva Caetani’s story and her 25 years of confinement within the property. My current residency at the Caetani House offers an opportunity to further investigate the relationship between space and embodied memory. Through my work, I hope to capture the felt presence of this unique environment and reflect on how it shapes personal and collective experiences."

Come say hello to Shirry and learn more about the fascinating Caetani story while exploring other art studios and spaces in the vicinity at First Friday
